BILL Jarvis Migratory bird sanctuary

More than 254 different species of birds visit the Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary each year. Much work has been done to bring the sanctuary to its current state of health. Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary is maintained by  volunteers who collect and scatter native seed, plant native species, pick up trash,  and remove invasive species.

Charlotte's Corner

Charlotte's Corner was dedicated on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Three Quercus rubra (red oak) trees were planted to honor the memory of Charlotte Newfeld (1930–2022), who was instrumental in establishing and managing the Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Chicago's lakefront. Charlotte was a lifelong nature lover and advocate, as well as a talented artist. Many of the drawings on this site are Charlotte's. The southeast corner of the sanctuary, where the trees are planted, is dedicated to Charlotte's hard work and dedication.
