Karen Gibson
As a lifelong Chicago area resident and nature enthusiast, one of my favorite outdoor activities is bird watching.  With Chicagoland's vast choices of parks, preserves and native habitat areas to explore, there is always inspiration, enjoyment and healing to be had from nature.
Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary is my most frequented retreat from our urban sprawl.  I've been volunteering there for ten years, serve as an associate steward for the past six years and volunteer as a Purple Martin bird monitor and data collector.
"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.  What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."---Jane Goodall

Vera Rast
Vera has been a volunteer at Jarvis Bird Sactuary for 16 years , first as a volunteer then an Associate Steward and the last six years as Steward. She originally came out of a theater background (ballet). Prior to her time at Jarvis, she was the Executive Vice President for a global legal search firm, then a self employed consultant.
Gary Horn
Gary has worked as a keeper at multiple different zoos. Now retired, he spends his time helping out on various restoration projects for over 40 years. He is an avid Jarvis volunteer, and has volunteer at many Chicago area projects.

John Swarens

John (he/him/his) has volunteered at Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary since the summer of 2019. He uses his background in commercial floriculture and landscape horticulture, and newfound knowledge in habitat management to help maintain the best possible sanctuary for migratory and resident birds alongside the other volunteers. Also an avid birder, he has observed well over 100 species at the bird sanctuary in just a few years. When not volunteering or birding, John is an IT Manager by profession and gardener, roller coaster enthusiast, and swimmer by hobby.
